Michael Nelson Jagamara is a senior Warlpiri painter. His design for the monumental mosaic in the Parliament House forecourt in Canberra and his huge (8.2 metre) painting in the foyer of the Sydney Opera House are among the best known of contemporary Aboriginal images. His recent work after 1998 has seen a dramatic turn towards gesture and symbol and away from the classic desert style of his earlier work.
